The Smee School Board has lifted the face mask requirement starting Monday, March 14. Moving forward, masks will be optional. The Board reserves the right to implement the mask requirement again if/when factors arise that necessitate it.

There will be a 2 hour late start today, Wednesday, March 30, due to weather and road conditions.

Heather Overland has been named the Wakpala School's Teacher of the Year 2022! Mrs. Overland is a 3rd-5th grade Teacher and 21st Century after-school program Director. Mrs. Overland will now go on to complete for the South Dakota Regional Teacher of the Year 2023. The Regional winner then enters the SD Teacher of the Year process. Thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate Mrs. Overland & recognize all the great things she's doing!

There will be no school on Thursday, March 10th & Friday, March 11th for spring break. Classes will resume on Monday March 14th. Enjoy the long weekend!

There will be no after-school program Wednesday, March 9th.

Mrs. Schlomer’s kindergarten class, together with Mrs. Griewski’s ELA classes celebrated “Read Across America” on March 2nd. The classes collaborated to complete different literacy projects. The 5th grade students joined the kindergartners in making homemade vanilla ice cream in a bag. After listening to the book "Be You", 3rd grade and kindergarten students paired up to draw and color a self-portrait.
Later, the kindergarten class adopted “reading buddies” to take home and practice reading with.
